Black Lung Blues: 4-part Tournament Scenario Rules

Hello from The Wilds!

Below are free rules for running a 4-part tournament using Wreck Age 2nd Edition. This tournament structure is ideal for new players trying out the game, and encourages building diverse, well balanced crews.

Black Lung Blues 100 RU Tournament

The Wreck Age: Black Lung Blues tournament is a four game tournament that involves picking 1-5 100 RUs (Resource Unit) crew lists created from the Wreck Age 2nd Edition box core rule-book.

Not all encounters will be combat oriented, and varied lists will have a better chance of victory.

This is an attrition-style tournament, in which the losers may choose to use one of their remaining prepared lists for the next game, but the winner must go on with any casualties (or choose to take a draw).

Players may select any faction: the civilized Stakers, the reckless Drifters, the zealous Reclaimers, the industrious ARHK, the mysterious Unicephalon, the macabre Stitchmen, the steady Caravaneers, or the erratic Church of Fun . Fringe Archetypes may be added to a faction crew or taken as a pure Fringe crew.

Players will engage in a series of linked narrative games across custom-built tables.

Participants who would like to do so may bring one (or more) crew of painted models. Any models may be used for this event, and painting will be judged.

Players will win RUs after each encounter based on the game results as shown below:

Encounter 1

Type: Scout

lose 10 RUs

Encounter 2

Welcome to the Resurgence! We hope that you’ll enjoy your stay here, in the town of Coal City.

You may bring up to 5 different crews, consisting of 100 RUs each. Choose one crew prior to your first game, and deploy them on the table, along with your list for the opponent and judges to see.

If you win or draw, you may choose to continue with your list, but any casualties carry over to the next round.

Losers may choose any list from their remaining lists, and start fresh for the next encounter.

Round 1

Mission: Patronage

Patronage: A caravan company is looking to set up a bureau in contested turf and is seeking protection from one of the crews in the area.

Victory conditions: The side with the fewest RUs in casualties (at least Out of Action) after five turns earns the favor of the caravan company and can count their turf as their own.

Setup: Roll for initiative and the winner may choose a table edge. The winning player chooses any table edge and rolls 2d6 to determine the distance from their chosen table edge that they may set up in. The winning player sets up all of their models, and will go first, or they may choose to let their opponent set up first and go first.

Secret Objectives: You may receive secret objectives as the game progresses.

The reward:

Winner: 25 RUs

You have impressed the Carvaneers not only with your ability to protect yourself, but to dish out damage as well. They award you with a one month contract, and you obtain 25 RUs in supplies as payment.

Loser: 5 RUs

The Caravaneers don’t think that you can satisfactorily defend their wares. However, they are always willing to revisit their contract later, and give you some supplies for your effort.

Draw (No Casualties): 10 RUs each

The Caravaneers are unclear about who would be the best crew to hire for their protection needs.

Track your casualties: Out of action results and Dying results must roll on the serious injuries table in front of their opponent. Record the results here:

Round 2

Mission: Salt the Earth

Salt the Earth: The Caravaneers made their choices to hire crews to help protect Coal City. It’s time for you to choose your allegiance. Will you help the Caravaneers protect the struggling community, or will you exact your revenge on the pathetic populace?

Choose a stance: (Drifters must choose Offensive)

Offensive: The Caravan did you wrong. You are going to show this little Podunk town. Take 4 counters, and place 4 satchels of poison to succeed before turn 6. These satchels must be placed either within 6” of the center of the board, or in the opponent’s deployment zone. The satchels are a complex action to place, and must be placed at least 4” apart. Each Character on your team carries unlimited amounts of poison to place. Offensive players may still remove the satchels of the opposing forces.

Defensive: Coal City didn’t do anything to you and you’ve heard rumors of the actions that some are planning; you must prevent more than 2 satchels of poison to be planted OR cause more casualties than you receive.

Victory conditions: Determined by Stance.

Setup: Roll for initiative and the winner may choose a table edge. The winning player chooses any table edge and rolls 2d6 to determine the distance from their chosen table edge that they may set up in. The winning player sets up all of their models, and will go first, or they may choose to let their opponent set up first and go first.

Special Scenario rules: If you won the last encounter, the Caravaneers give you a Green Security Agent for this encounter. You may control this Security Agent as a normal member of your crew.

Secret Objectives: You may receive secret objectives as the game progresses.

The rewards:

Achieving victory conditions: 25 RUs

You have impressed the Carvaneers not only with your ability to protect yourself, but to dish out damage as well. They award you with a one month contract, and you obtain 25 RUs in supplies as payment.

Not Achieving victory conditions: 5 RUs

The Caravaneers don’t think that you can satisfactorily defend their wares. However, they are always willing to revisit their contract later, and give you some supplies for your effort.

Track your casualties: Out of action results and Dying results must roll on the serious injuries table in front of their opponent. Record the results here:

Round 3

Mission: King Coal

Patronage: Caravan guards have been poisoned by nefarious forces in town. Bins full of coal sit unguarded in the center of town. This is an opportunity that you crew can’t pass up. That’s valuable brown coal, and could be bartered for a variety of resources.

Victory conditions: Control the coal cart that is in the center of the board at the end of the game. The game lasts 6 turns, or until one crew retreats. To control the cart, you must have one or more models in base-to-base contact with it, and there must not be any opposing Characters within 2” of the coal cart.

The reward:

Winner: 30 RUs

You control the Coal cart.

Loser: 5 RUs

The Caravaneers don’t think that you can satisfactorily defend their wares. However, they are always willing to revisit their contract later, and give you some supplies for your effort.

Draw (No one decisively controls the cart): 10 RUs each

The Caravaneers are unclear about who would be the best crew to hire for their protection needs.

Track your casualties: Out of action results and Dying results must roll on the serious injuries table in front of their opponent. Record the results here:

Round 4

Mission: Working the Seams

Working the Seams- Unrest among miners has turned the town into a battleground. A strike among the miners has been turned into a riot by over zealous Security Agents. The miners are striking back.

Select a stance.

Offensive: They’re with the miners! Or is it the Security Agents? Who cares?!? Your bloodlust kicks in and you must kill at least 50% of the opposing force (in RU value) by turn 6.

Defensive: Hold the square (or in this case, the circle)! You must defend the center of the board. Defensive players win if you control a circle 6” radius circle from the center of the board. There must be no opposing players within that circle, and you must have at least one Character within it.

Victory conditions:

Based on Stances.

If you have selected a defensive stance, you must start at least 18” away from any area of your opponent’s deployment zone.

Secret Objectives: You may receive secret objectives as the game progresses.

The reward:

Winner: 30 RUs

You achieve your victory conditions.

Loser: 5 RUs

You do not achieve your victory conditions.

Draw (No one achieves their victory conditions): 10 RUs each

You do not need to track casualties, as it’s the last game.
