Everyone loves video games, so what are you playing?

I have been replaying Shivering Isles (Elder Scrolls Oblivion expansion). It is a bit silly, but it is something I can play for an hour and put back down for a few days. I would be playing another play through of Mass Effect 3, but I don't really have the time right now (Adepticon) and they are coming out with that new ending soon.

On the iPhone I have been playing Doom 2 RPG, which is super dumb but you have to have a quick game for the bus.

Gamefly just brought me Just Cause 2, which looks equally dumb.

What are your video vices right now?

I'm playing Kid Icarus Uprising on the 3DS and Samurai Warriors 2 Empires for 360. Switching over to my PS3 when I get sick of the 360. Nothing on PC right now.

Air Mech and Dwarf Fortress. I don't really have the attention span to play a real game right now.

More Gamefly updates-

Just Cause 2 is a dumb game, but you can still put six or seven hours into it if you have to blow off a ton of steam like I have lately ha ha. The action parts are pretty solid, but the game itself is super repetitive (it's a giant island with the same stuff dotted all over it, with the same enemies everywhere) and the voice acting is MISERABLE. All in all, it's a rental, just like the first one.

So now I have Dead Rising 2: Off the Record- a 'remix' of DR2, which means it has a different main character and a very slightly different main story line. It's going to be fun to chainsaw paddle some zombies for a few days, but I really hope people didn't pay full retail for this game when it came out.

So yeah, Gamefly has been a bit of a bust the last few weeks ha ha. Anyone actually play something awesome?

Diablo 3, a lot. I'm pretty disgusted that I've already put in 4 days to a game that hasn't been out for three weeks.

Been playing Kingdoms of Amalur (RIP 38 Studios) and it's pretty fun, even if it is a mashup of about 6 other games. I think if it didn't come out right after Skyrim it would have sold more, as it is a pretty solid game regardless of how generic it is. It would be a good game if you broke your legs and couldn't leave the house, because there is a ton to do but some of it just isn't interesting enough to drag me away from other games/books/being productive.

And RA Salvatore is better at working within the confines of an established universe than creating his own. You can see his stamp on a lot of the stuff he wrote (anything involving elves, the man loves them) but some of it doesn't work for me (praetorian guard gnomes?). That being said the guy probably banged the KOA world out in a weekend and had some freelancers do all the quests and heavy lifting. I think that's a good approach :)

You commenting on this reminded me of our conversation about the game, the fate system was probably the one unique thing and it definitely gives the game more playability. You can change your whole build in town for a level appropriate fee. It lets you tinker with your hybrid class without creating nine characters to do so. I settled on a spell blade type guy.

I played EVE for a (free) month with a friend. That game was a pain in the ass! It felt like work so I moved on. The amount of customization you can do in that game is impressive, and it's interesting how guilds take over star systems or w/e.

I installed Diablo 3 as a free trial today (thanks Carl) and I enjoy it so far. Lots of carrots on lots of sticks. I can get into mindless dungeon delving sometimes.

They just changed a lot. Scanning is a pita right now, but everything else is so-so. I've been playing almost non-stop.

don't you find a sense of....emptiness? after playing a game non-stop? I remember staying up all night playing Diablo once and I just felt like puking. Not just because I was tired, but because I was like...why did I do that?

Sorry, maybe this is a different thread all together. Just thinking of playing a game 'non-stop' makes me feel dirty on the inside. I still do it once in a while (most recently I think I played civilization V like 10 hours in one day), and my feeling is confirmed.

Do any of you guys ever get that kind of feeling?

Ha ha sorry about that. I'm pretty good at not playing games for hours on end these days, I was into MMOs for a bit there 7 years or so ago to the point that I wasn't doing much else. And yes, sometimes my brain felt like a dried out husk after a long session. After that I delved back into pen and paper RPGs because of the social aspect, so here we are.

At ACen there was a gentleman talking about how World of Warcraft cost him a marriage... But I think if it wasn't for WoW it would have been something else. I prefer games with a pause button these days for sure, I think it allows for some necessary getting up and walking around.

Yeah, when I worked at GW retail, there was a guy that told me his wife left him over Warhammer. You're right, it would have been something else if not that. I don't blame alcohol for making alcoholics either, we all have to make value choices and live with the consequences.

In regards to video gaming, I think I live in somewhere between not quite an addict and a recovering addict. Not sure which B)

So...Diablo III looks pretty cool

Yeah, I definitely know what you're saying. I will occasionally play a video game for a long time (lately, it's been GTAIV) and I wonder why I just wasted 4 hours... But then again, I need to relax every now and then, and it beats spending $15 on a shitty movie.

Meh, I work in the morning, play with my daughter and start playing after dinner. I'll play with my friends until I'm ready for bed.
I just don't have anything else to do right now. It's kind of a dull time in my life.
I can usually do a day long session once in a blue moon, but generally a few hours and I'm done. I didn't even play anything last night, or tonight and tomorrow my daughter and I are camping. Friday is table top night. So playing non-stop is less of a fact and more of a it feels like it.

Currently playing a bit of Borderlands 2. It is a good game for when you are busy and would like to blow off some steam because you can save by a boss, farm him for some awesome gun, then go back to your business at hand.

Its the explosive micro nap of the 21st century.

Played Angry Birds in 2012 and Solitaire City. Both for iPhone, when there was absolutely nothing else at hand to do.

Haven't played a computer game since I finished university... and then it was mostly HALO which ran on the university servers quite well.

Bioshock Infinite? I liked it up until the later third where I felt the story began to unravel... But alternate dimensions are hard so I get that.

It was also too violent for the story.

After getting into minis again, Im off the PC considerably (except for work crap). Last good games were L4D2 and Borderlands. Before that I was a CS junkie for almost 10 years with my strategy games dotted here and there.
