I have never been to Adeption, but convinced my wife to make a long weekend out of it this year. I signed up for two of the Wreck Age events, picked up the rules PDF on wargames vault, and am poking around these forums looking for any other useful information. I already have a few questions, but won't get to posting them until tonight at the earliest.

I was big into wargaming back in the late 90s with 40k 3rd ed., mordheim, warzone, etc. I haven't been very active in the last ten years or so, just keeping up with a few games on forums. Kickstarter has brought me back into things a bit. Bones I and Endless Fantasy Tactics were the first two to grab me. I enjoy the small skirmish scale games that don't require hundreds of figures and love to learn new and different rules. Wreck Age could be right up my alley

Welcome! I can tell by your comments that you pay close attention to your Characters' gear...

So what are you hoping to outfit them with for the tournament?

I'm still wrapping my head around the interactions between traits and weapons, but I'm looking into the possibility of one character equipped with a solid, high quality rifle/carbine and the rest of the crew with more basic middle range options like shotguns or assault pistols. Based on that I'd probably lean towards Stakers, but it might also depend on what appropriate models I can dig out of my collection.

Really looking forward to meeting you and getting a few games in with you. Are you signed up for any other events as well?

I don't really have a painted army for anything right now, so I'm not in any of the big name Adepticon events. Any events you'd recommend? Besides the Wreck Age Saturday black lung and Sunday tenpikes events, I'm looking at the Freeblades Bladestone Keep event, and probably a Dark Age intro tourney. I love learning new rules so I'll be demoing everything I can find a seat to play. Also, I mean to track down the On The Lamb Games folks and coerce them into a full game or two of Endless Fantasy Tactics, since I haven't had a chance to meet them yet and I did a little playtesting for them after their kickstarter.

I've been primarily playing(GMing) roleplaying games the last few years, with an infrequent game of Hordes thrown in. I miss the competitive nature of a good miniatures war game so when the Adepticon opportunity presented itself and I decided to jump back in with both feet.

Given your interest in gear, I think that Stakers sound like a good match for you.

The balance between the hunting rifle and staker carbine is tough, but the extra Power of the hunting rifle always helps... especially against Power 3 Characters (not to mention the armor piercing trait for those in medium armor).

Hordes is definitely fun, but I get bored with endless assassination games. That said, the game is built for intense tournament play for sure. It's super well balanced.
It sounds like you're looking for newer games. For Sci Fi, I'd recommend Dust (it's on grids), Infinity can be cool, but I'm not a huge fan of the way you can stack actions onto one character who can then fly across the board and kill everyone. Flames of war is a lot of fun if you're into WW2, as is Bolt Action. Malifaux is a lot of fun, it's played with a deck of cards instead of dice, which sounds iffy, but they pull it off well. I do like freeblades. I like the way that they step the dice up. That's a really cool mechanic. I haven't played x Wing too much, but Matt really likes it. All in all, there is a ton of good games to choose from, and I think you'll have a great time!

Yeah that hunting rifle can come in handy when facing some bullet sponges like Stitchmen.

As far as other games go I have been playing a decent amount of X-Wing, as Anton stated. I have one or two each of the rebel ships and can bring them to Adepticon if you want to use them for an event, although the most interesting part of that game is the list building IMO. On the surface it is a pretty simple dogfight game but it becomes a deeper experience when you encounter a list that completely crushes you and you have to retool (which happens to me quite a bit haha). Also Star Wars is cool!

Endless Tactics is a fun game, but last I spoke to Emily I don't believe they are making it out to Lombard this year. If that has changed that is great news because I haven't seen any of the OTLG people since GenCon and that was for about 3 minutes.

You will be happy to know that On The Lamb changed their plans and will be shacking up in the Secret Weapon Miniatures booth during Adepticon.

That is good news!

I should message Emily now and make some plans. Good folks.
