TOPIC: Confused about the KS

Confused about the KS 4 years 5 months ago #1016

Hey all. So, I was a backer on the KS last year for Wreck-Age. Sank my money in for the sourcebook, and sat back and waited. Projects run long, I totally get that. But come on guys, how about some updates - especially on the sourcebook? You're approaching six months overdue, and two months since the last update. Even paltry things like "Hey, we're still on track to get the soft covers out by Gen Con, thanks for waiting!" at least to let us know that you're out there are nice. But going dark is pretty hard to swallow. Hell, I don't even care if you're stealing my money, just tell me so - I know that's a risk you take on KS. Communication is one of the single biggest places that folks running Kickstarters fall flat on their face, which is a shame since it's the single biggest way to keep people satisfied.

To that point, can you provide an explanation of how this project connects to your other KS: www.kickstarter.com/projects/hyacinthgam...xodus-adven?ref=live. It looks like you ran the same project twice (originally promising the book back in July of 2012), and are currently failing to deliver on either. I'm sorta wishing I'd seen that before, because it looks sorta shady in retrospect, ya dig?

I'm just sorta at a point where I want to know straight up if I threw my money away, and if I didn't, encourage you to be more open and communicative about where things stand. At that point, I'll also gladly accept the second book as goodwill compensation with a smile. But keep in mind, everything you do on KS now will also affect the success of projects you want to run in the future.

Hey Quicksilver,

First off, thanks for your patience and the civility of your message, I would be frustrated with us as well. We certainly should be more communicative through the official KS channels, I'll rectify that soon. I do a lot of the communicating with 'the public' as far as our little group goes, so that falls squarely on my shoulders, especially when I find the time to update our FB and Twitter and what have you. Part of that comes from how frustrated we are this book isn't out, after the amount of work we have already invested in our project, that and the fact it is a little embarrassing. It's not your responsibility as a pledge to take our pulse and see how we are doing, although I can promise you we are almost there, after some setbacks I won't go into. I hate giving excuses and you don't want to hear them I am sure. I have pledged to enough KS campaigns (and seen quite a few become vapor) that I know this sucks.

The rulebook was the overlap between the two campaigns, and we contacted those pledges that we were rolling it over. There weren't a ton of original book backers, so offering them the bonuses of both campaigns (and sending out the minis from the first fulfillment) eased that sting. Not exactly a proven track record, I know, but I hope that reassures you that we at least intend to follow through on all of our promises.

Thanks for pledging, I really appreciate it and hope it hasn't soured you on us or Kickstarter (my phone wanted to say Lickstarter, which would be an entirely different theme). Let me know if you want any specific details and I can also roll those into our upcoming KS update.

Matt covered the essential apology, and I just want to echo his sentiments. Everything he said is spot on and your frustration is more than justified. We all get that and we are going to work to rectify the lapse in communication.

While you are awaiting the official KS update we can tell you about a few things to help put your mind at ease.

I'm Nick and I came on with Hyacinth Games in an official capacity a couple of months ago. I can tell you its been a really exciting couple of months. We're currently refining the rule set, going through the epic project of editing and paring down the manuscript, and trying to make sure we send the best possible product to the printers. It would make for a boring KS update but I can tell you we meet up several times a week either in pairs, or with all three of us and our recently added editor, Naomi. We've done a lot of brainstorming, innovating some new mechanics, hammered out an updated and realistic (but still tentative) release schedule, and have in general become more focused and structured. On the heels of Adepticon we've gotten some really enthusiastic people helping out with additional play testing too. Hopefully, in the end, it will all be worth the wait for you because you'll have invested in a quality product that will then be followed by the proper support that the backers deserve.

When I came on Matt and Anton were already behind schedule, but they've really developed a very evocative play environment and a fun set of rules. They have stockpiled a lot of material to tap into and I've been really amped to explore what they've created together with them and get an opportunity to add to it and help polish it.

This doesn't change that you're owed an update, not by a long shot, but I want you to know that the project has not vanished and people are working on it daily. If you have time, poke around the forum, and feel free to chime in - your input is valuable as we prepare to go into the final stretch of alterations.

Either way, we all genuinely appreciate your support for this project and we'll make sure to keep you and all of our backers more informed going forward.

Thanks guys, I super appreciate the candor, and already feel much better. I think the wait will be worth it in the end, and would rather see it take longer to get a better product in the end anyway.

We should be thanking you, we needed a little prodding to show what's been going on lately. Hope the KS update sufficed for you!
